3rd International Rice Congress (IRC2010)

The 3rd International Rice Congress (IRC2010) was held 8-12 November 2010 in Hanoi, Vietnam. It attracted 1,958 participants from 61 countries. The Congress marked the 50th anniversary of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), which was founded in the Philippines in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations.

IRRI Director General Robert Zeigler gave his welcoming remarks during the opening ceremonies, also, the Vietnamese Government bestowed upon IRRI its First Class Friendship Order on the occasion of the Institute's 50th anniversary.

Nine Merit Medals to IRRI scientists (Robert Zeigler, Achim Dobermann, Gurdev Khush, Darshan Singh Brar, Roland Buresh, Tô Phúc Tường, Kong Luen Heong, Abdelbagi Ismail, and Grant Singleton) were presented "for the cause of Science and Technology development of Vietnam and for the cause of agriculture and rural development of Vietnam by a decree signed by the minister of science and technology."
Six IRRI scientists (William Padolina, David Mackill, Sushil Pandey, David Johnson, Martin Gummert, and Julian Lapitan) were recognized with Merit Awards for their agriculture and rural development work

A set of 45 videos includes highlights from the opening ceremonies, two book launchings, and selected sessions of  the first-ever International Rice Policy and Investment Conference (IRPIC) and the 28th International Rice Research Conference (IRRC28), both held as part of the Congress. The launching of the Global Rice Science Partnership (GRiSP) is also featured.
